Fatty Seeds - Mrs. Burns' Lemon Basil

An attractive basil with an intense lemon fragrance due to the high concentration of the essential oil citral. The leaves are light green and can be used in herb teas, soups, salads and fish dishes. It is an irreplaceable ingredient in Indonesian and Thai cooking. The plant should be tip-pruned and the flower spikes removed regularly to increase bushiness.

Cooking tip: Always add basil at the end of the cooking time to maximise its flavour.

Growing: Seed germinated best at 18-24°C . Plant seeds 1/4" deep, 2-3 seeds per inch. Firm the soil over the seeds.

Germination: 5-10 days

Harvest: Begin light harvesting after plants have become established. It is best done in the early morning when the temperature is cooler and the leaves are less likely to wilt. A full harvest should be completed just before the plants start to flower. Cut the entire plant 4-6" above the ground to promote a second growth. Leaves are easily bruised when picking, so handle carefully.

Mrs. Burns' Lemon Basil grows best in moderately rich, moist soil and full sun. Regular moisture throughout growing helps to ensure good crop.
