Fatty Seeds – Coriander
Coriander, also known as Cilantro or Chinese Parsley, is a popular aromatic herb known for its delicate green leaves and distinctive, refreshing flavour. Commonly used in soups, stir-fries, salads and garnishes, it adds a fresh and fragrant taste to various dishes. Suitable for growing in pots or garden beds, Coriander is a great addition to home gardens.
Planting Guidelines:
-
Sow the seeds directly into well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, approximately 0.5–1cm deep. Space the plants 10–15cm apart to allow sufficient room for healthy growth.
-
Seeds typically germinate within 8–14 days, and the leaves can be ready for harvesting in approximately 45–75 days. Harvest the young outer leaves and stems while leaving sufficient foliage for continued growth.
-
Coriander grows best in cooler conditions with partial sunlight. In Singapore's warm climate, morning sunlight with afternoon shade is recommended to reduce heat stress. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Avoid prolonged exposure to intense afternoon sunlight, as excessive heat may cause early flowering.
