Fatty Seeds – Curly Kale
Curly Kale is a nutritious leafy vegetable known for its vibrant green, tightly curled leaves and slightly earthy flavour. Rich in vitamins and minerals, it is commonly used in salads, smoothies, soups, stir-fries and baked kale chips. Suitable for growing in pots or garden beds, Curly Kale is a great addition to home gardens.
Planting Guidelines:
-
Sow the seeds directly into well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, approximately 0.5–1cm deep. Space the plants 30–45cm apart to allow sufficient room for healthy growth.
-
Seeds typically germinate within 6–10 days, and the leaves can be ready for harvesting in approximately 55–65 days. Harvest the outer leaves regularly while leaving the centre intact to encourage continuous growth.
-
Curly Kale grows best in full to partial sunlight. In Singapore's warm climate, morning sunlight with afternoon shade is recommended to reduce heat stress. Water regularly to keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Ensure good drainage and adequate airflow to promote healthy growth.
